STUDENT GRANTS
  > Advice on getting grants as a student

Grants/Scholarships

A grant or scholarship is a sum of free money donated by organizations/ the government and businesses to support students pay for their higher education. Competition for grants is very tough in the UK, grant companies will demand prospective students meet certain strict requirements or their grant application will not be considered.

  • Start applying to all grants you may be eligible for well in advance of your academic years start date, to be certain give the process at least a year.
  • Low income families can now qualify for grants. If a family’s income is less than £10 000 they are eligible for a full grant (£2700 per annum), if their income is below £20 000 they can qualify for a partial grant.
  • If you receive a grant make sure it is enough to cover your expenses during your academic year. It may be necessary to apply for additional funding.
  • A grant is intended for one individual and will not cover any extended family you are currently supporting.

The easiest way to find a relevant grant or scholarship contact your prospective university’s student services or website. For a list of all UK universities go to accommodation for student’s university list.
